Welcome to Chiang Mai Half-day Bike Tour! When you just arrived, the city can be quite overwhelming. What’s better than exploring at your own pace on a bike? This 3,5 hour tour takes you on a relaxed 11km bike ride around the historic city. Visit temples, holy shrines and modern architecture. A slow ride with excellent opportunities to discover the local hostory and culture!

WHAT TO EXPECT ON THE HALF-DAY BIKE TOUR CHIANG MAI

We start the day at the grasshopper office at 09:15. Please be there at this time as we are leaving at 09:30 sharp! After you pick your bike and helmet, we head to off to a number of destinations withing Chiang Mai city. This is a completely relaxed bike tour and is also suitable for families with children. The terrain is all flat and we navigate through the traffic in an organized manner.

The tropical sun can be quite harsh, so we recommend to bring some sun block or sun sleeves to protect your arms and Buff headwear for your neck. Please note that men and women need to be dressed modestly by covering their shoulders when visiting temples and mosques. Women are also required to cover their knees. So if you like to wear shorts,  please bring some extra cover like a sarong whenever we enter a holy place. Water & snacks are included on this morning trip.

Our easy bike ride takes us to the following locations:

• Wat Chiang Man – Chiang Mai’s oldest temple. It’s located in the north east corner of the historic city. You can find ancient crystal and marble Buddha shrines here.
• The City Navel – The exact center of the city is called the city navel. Here you can find the Navel temple with its three kings monument and 700 years old (!) temple
• Wat Chedi Luang – Our next stop is Chiang Mai’s biggest monument. This temple was once the home of the Emerald Buddha (now located in Bangkok) and was actually built to house the ashes of a king. Nowadays you can view the City Pillar here and 3 huge dipterocarp trees which provide protection to Chiang Mai.
• Tha Phae Gate – On the east city of the old city you can find this ancient gate. Here we’ll have a walk around the city’s narrow lanes. The gate was used by traders who brought their goods in the city. Our guides will tell you more about the history of Chiang Mai as a trading hub here.
• Somphet Market – At the end of the trip it’s time to visit Somphet market, close by Tha Phae gate. Our guides will tell you about Chiang Mai cuisine, taste the tropical fruits or just wander around!

When we leave the market, it’s time to head back to our office on the south east corner of the old city. That’s also our end point, from where you can enjoy the rest of the afternoon. A truly interesting and relaxed way of exploring the old city of Chiang Mai!
